Q: I entered a soil Vs30 for my site but the output was for a rock Vs30. Why did the computer change my request?A: In the central and eastern U.S. we can only do rock–site analysis at this time. For more information about which values can be used at which locations, please read our online documentation.
Q: I entered a Vs30 < 180 m/s but the computer changed it to 180 m/s. Why?A: Western U.S. attenuation models were prepared to handle site response with Vs30 >= 180 m/s. For the NEHRP E site class the NGA relations do not have a corresponding model.
Q: Why is the “Site Name” displayed properly on the web page, but is truncated in the text report and on the images?A: The underlying code that computes the text file and images can only handle up to 16 characters. However we display the full input site as you entered it on the web output for convenience.
Q: The “Feedback” and “Problems” links seem to go to the same place. What’s the deal?A: The “Feedback” sends the message to the research physical scientist who works on these applications. The “Problems” link sends the message to the web developer who works on this applicaiton. Please make sure you send your question/comment to the person.
Q: Are there any restrictions on what I can put into the “Site Name” field?A: The “Site Name” field may contain letters, number, or spaces. Other characters may cause the application to crash. Also, while you may enter any length value, it will be truncated to the first 16 characters in the output files.
Q: How do I enter inputs into the “Location” field?A: The “Location” field is a free-form input field that accepts any variety of values. You may enter latitude and longitude values, street addresses, zip codes, or general regions. If all of that is too confusing, try clicking on the “Show Map” link and just zoom/pan the map around and drag the red icon to the desired location.
Q: Where is the option to create geographic deggregations or stochastic seismograms?A: Those features are currently not supported in this preliminary 2008 edition of the application. For more information why, please read our documentation page. The 2002 version of the application is still available and you can produce those output files from that version.
